A Response to the News The news reports events and gives commentary. What it does not do is create solutions to the problems they report.
I'd like for this blog to be a place where people can get together to consider new solutions to the problems in the news. Future Problem Solving is an organization based on teaching students to solve problems in six steps:
1 Challenges: Find possible problems within the given Future Scene. 2. Underlying Problem: Determine the most important or consequential problem. 3. Solutions: Write solutions to solve the Underlying Problem. 4. Criteria: Write 5 criteria by which to judge the solutions. 5. Grid: Judge the solutions with the criteria, and determine which solution is the best overall. 6. Action Plan: The highest-scoring (best) solution, as determined by the Grid, is elaborated into a detailed plan for the implementation of that solution.
I'd like to see if we can use these steps to find solutions to Current Events rather than Future Scenes. In the first and third steps I'll see if I can come up with the first ideas. Then others can add to the lists in the comment box. Brainstorming Ground Rules will help.
